Studentship funding is typically for a period of up to four years, and comes from the ICR and funding bodies such as Cancer Research UK, industrial partners and other charities.

Our PhD students are an integral part of the research team. We don’t just train students to carry out cutting-edge cancer research, we enable and guide them as they make their own discoveries and help to defeat cancer.

Like all of our scientists, PhD students at the ICR benefit from all that our dedicated research sites at Chelsea and Sutton in London have to offer – working in a unique multidisciplinary environment alongside world leaders in cancer research and clinicians from The Royal Marsden, and with access to state-of-the-art facilities and the support of expert technical staff.

Our PhD studentships train students to carry out cutting-edge cancer research in one of the eight research divisions at the ICR.

Initially, students are registered for an MPhil and after the first year has been completed, an upgrade report and oral examination takes place. Successful students will then be transferred onto PhD registration.

Please see the resources and support page for more information on how your progress will be assessed.
